Create Facebook Custom Tabs Using FBML Now - Before They Phase It Out!

Facebook says they will stop allowing new FBML application development by the end of December 2010. They request you to "please implement your application within an iFrame, using our JavaScript SDK and Social Plugins."

This is NOT as simple to implement as HTML. So if you aren't a programmer with the skills to do this, I encourage you to build some FBML pages while you can, which means NOW.

Why build them if FBML is being phased out?

Because if you've created your custom business tabs using FBML, they'll continue to support those existing custom tabs in the future. After they phase it out, you'll still be able to build these custom tabs, however, the language used may not be as simple to use for business owners such as yourself, who may not have a web designer on hand and want to build these pages easily and quickly.

This change will affect the large community of amateur coders and entrepreneurs who, like me, love the simplicity of FBML tags and basic HTML. Facebook may replace FBML with a coding language that will be simpler to use however, if it doesn't, there may not be the opportunities for those of us less technically inclined or who don't want to take the time to learn the new Facebook platform. It can take months and sometimes years to become a competent coder.

I don't know about you, but I don't have a programmer on staff and I don't want to spend months learning new coding skills. However, I do know enough HTML to get the job done quickly, that's why I love the current FBML accessibility.

If you're in the same boat as me, I recommend you take a look at some other Facebook business pages with custom FBML tabs to see how having them on your Facebook page would benefit you. If you like what you see, now is the time to build some pages for the long haul with the simpler FBML language.

And now if you're ready to add opt-in boxes, video or even buy buttons to your custom tabs in Facebook with FBML, we've put together a step-by-step video tutorial to walk you through it when you're ready to create one, which you'll want to do before the end of 2010.
